ANNUAL MEETING MINUTES

March 14, 2009

The 36th annual meeting of the WI State 600 Bowling Club was called to order by President Shirley Hoffman at 7:42 AM on Saturday, March 14, 2009 at the Radisson Hotel and Convention Center, Green Bay, WI. 

 

INVOCATION given by Director #3, Rosie Thiel.  

PLEDGE of ALLEGIANCE led by Sergeant-at-Arms, Kathy Rathsack.

 

ROLL CALL of OFFICERS - 4 officers, 3 directors and 1 life member

OFFICERS – Shirley Hoffman, President; Ardeen Stevens, Vice-President; Arlys Bourdage, Secretary-Treasurer; Kathy Rathsack, Sgt-at-Arms. 

DIRECTORS – Polly Burright, Karen Johnson and Rosie Thiel.

LIFE MEMBERS – Virginia Stewart.   EXCUSED – Betty Smith and Glenora Thompson.   

 

MINUTES of the 35th annual meeting of March 15, 2008, as printed in the annual meeting program, were approved by the Board at their June 2008 meeting and will be placed on file. 

 

CLUB TREASURY REPORT printed in annual meeting program.  Audit Committee report presented by Ardeen Stevens, Vice-President.  Motion by Gloria Ward, Beloit, second by Kathy Rydberg, Beloit, and voice vote approval to accept treasury report as presented and audited. 

 

TOURNAMENT FINANCIAL REPORT, as printed in the annual meeting program, was reviewed by Secretary-Treasurer, Arlys Bourdage.  Audit completed December 31, 2008 by Gale Wolff and Sandra Schmidt, Merrill, along with Richard Johnson, Tax Practitioner, Tomahawk; found to be in order as reported by Ardeen Stevens, Vice-President.  Motion by Janet Singer, Marshfield, seconded by Gail Riedesel, Tomah, and voice vote approval to accept the Tournament Financial report as presented and audited. 

 

A short MEMORIAL SERVICE was conducted by Vice-President, Ardeen Stevens, and Director #1, Polly Burright. 

 

OLD BUSINESS – None presented. 

 

NEW BUSINESS

 

Shirley Hoffman read the PRESIDENT’s REPORT printed in the annual meeting program. 

 

Arlys Bourdage referenced the SECRETARY’s MESSAGE printed in annual meeting program.  Secretary Bourdage noted that the annual meeting minutes are now printed on the WI State 600 Club website (www.bowlwis600.org) – look for the 2009 meeting minutes in a few weeks.  The 2009 State 600 Club tournament in Rhinelander will include a new scratch event, with scores used from the singles competition.  The scratch event entry fee of $10.00 will be returned 100% in prize money (no trophies).  Women must participate in the singles handicap event and cannot just bowl scratch.  Remember, a woman can still enter and bowl singles event only.  One hundred forty-four (144) new State memberships were processed during 2008-09, of which 53% (77) participated in the 2008 annual tournament in Lake Geneva.  Secretary Bourdage also reminded the delegation to be diligent in provision of correct, current address to avoid returned checks, entry forms, etc.  An outstanding check listing was presented for member review.

 

ACTS of the BOARD reviewed as printed in the annual meeting program.  Additions reported verbally from the March 13, 2009 Board meeting included:  Formal approval of October 25, 2008 Board meeting minutes, 2008-2009 Club Treasury report and audit, 2008 Lake Geneva Tournament financial report and audit, and March 24, 2009 as the mailing date for 2009 Rhinelander tournament entry forms. 

Other ACTS included approval of expenditures for major supplies (envelopes, tournament checks, etc). 

                                                                                                     

CREDENTIALS REPORT presented by Sergeant-at-Arms, Kathy Rathsack:  4 officers, 3 directors, 1 life member, 108 members and 10 guests present for a total of 116 eligible to vote. 

 

TELLERS appointed by President Hoffman:  Anna Dean, Ozaukee County; Lucy Herman, Waukesha; Muriel Larson, Wisconsin Dells; Rebecca Sager, Tomah; Lynn Timm, Green Bay; and Gloria Ward, Beloit. 

 

Director #2, Karen Johnson, stated there was no Legislative Committee report.

 

ELECTION of OFFICERS – Nominating Committee Report and proposed slate of candidates presented by Sandra Kay Hughes, Chair, Wal-Roc. 

Vice-President – Polly Burright, Burlington        Director #3 – Rosie Thiel, Shawano.  

Sandra Kay Hughes announced desire to withdraw her name from the candidacy slate for the position of Vice-President, and offered her name in consideration for the vacated Director #1 position.

No other nominations were presented from the floor.  Polly Burright was elected by acclamation for a three year term as Vice-President.  Rosie Thiel was re-elected by acclamation as Director #3.  Acceptance comments were given by each. 

The vacated position of Director #1 will be appointed by President Hoffman with Board approval. 

 

2010 TOURNAMENT SITE SELECTION – Five bids were received and presented in order of receipt.

  WAL-ROC USBCA (Lake Geneva) – Karen Klabunde, Association Manager presented the bid.  Cost $7.00. 

  SHAWANO-CLINTONVILLE USBCA (Clintonville) – Donna Doede presented the bid.  Cost $6.75.  Additional $1500 to prize purse. 

  MARINETTE & MENOMINEE (M & M) (Marinette) – Judy Borths presented the bid.  Cost $7.00, additional $1500 to prize purse.

  WISCONSIN VALLEY USBC WBA (Marshfield) – Janet Singer presented the bid.  Cost $7.75.  Additional $3000 to prize purse. 

  GREEN LAKE USBC WBA (Green Lake) – Cindy Nissen presented the bid.  Cost $7.00.  Additional $1 per bowler + $500 to prize purse. 

First ballot – 116 eligible to vote.  116 votes cast, majority to pass 59. 

             Wal-Roc – 3, Clintonville – 29, M & M – 20, WI Valley – 47, Green Lake – 17  

No majority obtained, Wal-Roc dropped from second ballot. 

Second ballot – 116 eligible to vote.  116 votes cast, majority to pass 59.

             Clintonville – 28, M & M – 20, WI Valley – 53, Green Lake – 15    

No majority obtained, Green Lake dropped from third ballot. 

Third ballot – 116 eligible to vote.  112 votes cast, majority to pass - 57

             Clintonville – 34, M & M – 13, WI Valley – 65

The 2010 WI State 600 Bowling Club tournament will be held in MARSHFIELD, hosted by Wisconsin Valley USBC WBA. 

 

Many lucky ladies won door prizes awarded from the five bid cities (Wal-Roc, Shawano-Clintonville, Marinette & Menominee, Wisconsin Valley and Green Lake).

 

During the balloting, resigning Vice-President, Ardeen Stevens offered her thanks to all for allowing her the privilege of serving the WI State 600 Bowling Club Board for so many years.  She presented the engraved crystal clock the Board gave her the previous day in appreciation of her 24 years of service.  Ardeen was then presented with a standing ovation. 

 

Tellers were dismissed and ballots were destroyed. 

 

2008 TOURNAMENT REPORT – Sandra Kay Hughes, Lake Geneva Host City Coordinator, thanked everyone for their participation and reported that donations of $250 each were sent for cancer research (from shirt sales) and to St. Jude’s.  She presented and distributed the special mugs that the seven women who rolled 700 series in the Lake Geneva tournament would receive.                    

                         

First place trophies and special game/series awards were announced by Secretary Bourdage and presented by Sandra Kay Hughes and Director #3, Rosie Thiel.

Secretary Bourdage congratulated Lake Geneva on running a great tournament and, in appreciation and remembrance, a pen and pencil desk set was presented to Host City Coordinator, Sandra Kay Hughes. 

 

The Tournament Traveling Trophy was passed from Sandra Kay Hughes, Lake Geneva, to Sharon Cline, Rhinelander, with best wishes for a successful 2009 Annual Tournament.  Sharon Cline welcomed everyone to Rhinelander and announced winners of the eight free hotel stays.

Board positions up for election in 2010 are Secretary-Treasurer, Arlys Bourdage, and Director #1 (candidate yet to be named).  Nomination forms may be obtained from the Chair, Co-Chair or from the State 600 Bowling Club Secretary and are due January 15, 2010. 

 

Drawing held for three (3) complete FREE ENTRIES to the 2009 tournament in Rhinelander, paid for by the State 600 Club – Claudia Place, Toni Marineau and Elizabeth Ziegler  

 

WI State 600 Bowling Club 50/50 CASH RAFFLE winners were drawn.  Nine (9) cash prizes were awarded (6 at $40, 1 at $35 and 2 at $30 – total $335).  The remaining 50% of the monies ($334) will be added to the Club treasury. 

 

With no further business brought forward, meeting ADJOURNED on motion at 9:25 AM.
